One Day Young Malawi for Wateraid

I was commissioned to go to Malawi by WaterAid to create an extension of my series One Day Young for their Maternal Health Campaign. I would be capturing women the day they had a baby back in their own homes in rural districts where there is no access to clean water. The body language mimicked the women in the original series, exuding strength and love, even though they were overcoming great obstacles to survive this transition into motherhood. I learnt so much from this experience, sharing this moment with ten women.

Its the barrier to an education: theres no time to go to school if you have to walk miles to fetch water – without education they are stuck in poverty. It’s an endless cycle that perpetuates women’s lack of control in improving their lives. Forever grateful for this opportunity to highlight and learn from these wonderfully generous and brave women.
