Thrilled that three portraits from my series, Hackney Studios, will be included in Seeing Each Other: Portraits of Artists at Pallant House Gallery. The selected portraits include Fiona Banner, Yinka ilori and Jasleen Kaur. This exhibition will explore how artists working in Britain in the 20th and 21st century have portrayed each other to reflect on identity and their place within artistic circles. Exploring mutual emulation, rivalry and homages to past artists, the exhibition will look at 125 years of British portraiture to consider the intersection between friendships, inspiration and selfhood. My work will be amongst leading British artists, including Patrick Caulfield, Lucian Freud, Maggi Hambling, Lubaina Himid, Ben Nicholson, Celia Paul, and many others. I’m delighted to be part of this show and can’t wait to see the exhibition and catalogue curated by Melanie Vandenbrouck. The show is open from May 17th to Nov 2nd. It’s a wonderful gallery. Pallant House has acquired all three works for its Permanent Collection. It is wonderful to have a forever home for this work.
